Two days at Tino, the island that you can visit once a year

Are you fascinated by the islands?
Who knows the La Spezia’s archipelago?
Which islands you have to visit in the Gulf of Poets?

If, as we have already suggested you in the previous post of our blog, you have already made a tour on Palmaria, the main of this suggestive group of island of the magnificent Gulf of Poets, on the coming weekend you will have an opportunity unique: going to Tino. Unique, because during the other days of the year, this island is not accessible, being in use at the Navy: the rare occasions to admire its wild and protected beauty, with a flora and fauna characterized by rare species, the Its narrow buildings, the lighthouse that guides the sailors who sail along the coast between Liguria and Tuscany, arrive with the celebrations in honor of San Venerio. Born in Palmaria, the first arriving from La Spezia and the largest island of the Unesco World Heritage archipelago together with Porto Venere and the Cinque Terre, the saint lived in hermitage in this nature’s jewel until his death; today he’s the patron of the lighthouse keeper and the Gulf, celebrated on September 13th.

Concurrently with the religious recurrence, the Tino will reopen – even if only for two days – to everyone.

So, if your are spending these days in La Spezia, in the Gulf of the Poets, in the Cinque Terre or in the surroundings … don’t miss this opportunity! After arriving by boat, departing from La Spezia, Porto Venere (both on 15 and 16 September) and Lerici (16), visit the incredible corners of this naturalistic wonder, but also the lighthouse and the museum that hosts restored archaeological finds found on the island and dedicated also to the history of lighthouses.

An essential help for the navigators, who could thus move safely in the sea, just like the lucky ones who approached the Tino in the 7th century and were advised by the saint hermit, who warned them by lighting bonfires on the rocks of the island.
