If you like to visit Tuscany and Cinque Terre in the same trip, the train could be a good solution. In fact, travelling by train from Florence, Pisa, Siena and other villages of Tuscany to Cinque Terre is easy, cheap and quite fast.
For example, a train journey from Florence to Monterosso (Cinque Terre) takes 2h 50’ with two stops in Pisa and La Spezia and the fare is about 20 € per person.
Coming by car could be a bit faster (Florence-Monterosso by car takes 2h 15’) but you’ve to consider the costs for highway toll and then for the parking.
Otherwise, if you like to visit Tuscany, Cinque Terre and French Riviera, maybe the car is the best solution, because only the train journey from Cinque Terre to French Riviera (in example, the city of Nice) can take up to 6 hours with two changes in Genoa and Ventimiglia.
You can do the same trip by car (280km) in about 3h 30’.
