A new alliance for the protection of the territory has been tightened between the Cinque Terre’s Park and the winegrowers operating in this part of Eastern Liguria, included by UNESCO among the World Heritage Sites for its unique landscape, created through the centuries by the work of peasants that cultivate the grape.
In addition to tourism, the Cinque Terre live also thanks to the products of their land, especially the vines cultivated in the terraces supported by the dry walls, utilized for make fine white wine: the beauty of what surrounds these villages is the result of a fragile balance between activity and nature, which requires constant care and attention to the threatening elements.
Always committed to the protection of this heritage, the Cinque Terre Park has identified in winemakers the best ally on these ridges to preserve them, and exhaminate some critical issues to check and during a recent meeting : creation of infrastructures, fragmentation of properties, presence of wild boars, irrigation aqueducts, development of quality products and their marketing, accession of agricultural holdings to the European Charter for Sustainability, measures to support and expand agricultural activities for the maintenance and recovery of landscape.
Another important news is the proposal of the National Park to entrust the farm work on the paths that cross between the terraces and attracting thousands of trekking lovers every year, enchanted by the beauty of these views and the uniqueness of hiking trails.
The relationship between agriculture and tourism has been hoped by Vincenzo Resasco, regent president of the Park; Arbaspàa Tour Operator has been in use this for years: with part of the revenues of activities in the Cinque Terre, the founders and owners Eugenio Bordoni and Catherina Unger are have become members of Prima Terra, that produce high quality wine with grapes grown in the areas of Riomaggiore, Vernazza and other close to La Spezia, in the cellar in Campiglia.
In this way, tourism helps to recover and maintain this paradise, which deserves to be known by those who visit it not only for its charm, but for its products and its peculiarities.
