Reopening of Vernazza railway station

Today is an important day for Vernazza and Cinque Terre.
Indeed, today Monday 16th January 2012, the railway station of Vernazza is open to all again.

Hard damaged by the dramatic flood on last Oct, 25th, the railway station has been restored in the first days after the flood because it’s in the line Genoa-Rome: after its restore on the last days of October and the beginning of November 2011, the use of the station has been limited for security reasons only to residents and rescue teams.

Today, after 2 month and half, Vernazza is finally reachable for everyone by train: this represents another great and important step to a gradual return to the normality that we all hope can happen as soon as possible.

For sure, there’s still a lot of things to do and it’s still difficult make a prevision about when Vernazza will be ready for tourism again but, at the same time, enjoy this good news!

We are planning on visiting this region at the end of june. Are the trails still open for hiking? Are there any places we should avoid at that time?
    THanks for the advice!

Hi,I’m from Brazil and I was planning to visit 5 terre from 16th to 19th, april. What do you think? It´s possible or the best choice would be staying in another city and just make a one-day-tour for 5 terre. I have a booking indeed in Monterosso Al Mare but I am completly confused.
    What should I do?

Hi Fernando, staying at 5 Terre it’s possible, of course. Only Vernazza is hardly damaged, and in this moment we don’t know if it will be open again for tourists in the next summer. We hope it, of course.
So, you can stay in Riomaggiore, Corniglia, Manarola or Monterosso and organize your daily excursions, visits, tours in the Cinque Terre without any problem!

    Have a nice day!

Hi Carla, the situation of the footpaths are “work in progress” here in the 5 Terre. The most important trails will be open and available for next spring/summer; some trails have been damaged due to the flood but we’re working hard to repair them and for next season they will be open. We’re also opening new trails, together with the wine-makers, in the famous vineyards of the 5 Terre.
For any other info, don’t hesitate to ask us!

so, when you say next spring and summer, are you referring to this coming Spring of 2012, or to 2013? I needed to clarify this since we were hoping to be there JUne 28-30th, 2012.
    THanks!
