Cinque Terre flood

Great dismay for the flood that yesterday, October 25th, hit the Eastern part of the Liguria region, striking the city of La Spezia, the famous “Cinque Terre”, the nearby town of Levanto and the inland area close to Brugnato.

Heavy rains created further damages also in Tuscany, striking the area called “Lunigiana”.

Damages are very serious: the town of Levanto is literally submerged by the water, in the Cinque Terre the villages of Vernazza and Monterosso have the worst situation; Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore have been less damaged even if, above all for Corniglia, there are much difficulties to reach it by car yet.

Unfortunately, there are victims and missing people.

Heavy repercussions also on the main communication networks. This is the situation:

Highways: closed the Highway A12 Genoa-Livorno between Sestri Levante and La Spezia (in direction of Livorno), closed also the Highway A15 between La Spezia and Pontremoli (direction North) and between Borgotaro and La Spezia (direction South).

Ordinany viability: closed also the road S.S. n° 1, called “Aurelia”, between the km 428 to the km 443 (between Carrodano and Borghetto) due to several landslides.
It’s possible to going again along the S.S. “della Cisa”, either for local traffic and for the rescue-cars; in the area of Aulla and Pontermoli there are some deviations to avoid the transit into the villages.

Railway: the railway line Genoa-La Spezia is interrupted until next Sunday because a big landslide between Monterosso and Corniglia. Currently, there are “shuttle-trains” between Levanto and Monterosso and between La Spezia and Corniglia.
The trains coming from Genoa must stop in Sestri Levante or Levanto.
Those ones coming from Pisa must stop in La Spezia.

Difficulties also in the telecommunications: in the last morning, October 26th, there were big problems on phone lines (also mobile) in the Cinque Terre.

We will go to give you the news about the situation.
