The Cinque Terre with our Dog
Traveling with an animal is now easier than years ago, when stores, truck stops and hotel facilities denied access to our animal companions. For the past few years, the overall situation has been much improved; animals now have access to almost every store and even many supermarkets in Italy.
On trains they travel for free, if small, or by paying half the price of the ticket. For the respect and well-being of all, there are still limitations, especially when it comes to beaches, and one must leave prepared.
HIKING WITH OUR DOG
The Cinque Terre is an evocative area of hills and sea, with many possibilities for us and our animal friends who so love to be in the midst of nature.
The trail network is very varied and branched, and all trails are suitable for walking with our 4-legged friends. We prefer mid-seasons to travel with them, but if you really can’t just be careful and take some precautions, such as being careful of heat stroke and avoiding days that are too hot. Always carry water supplies, on the trails you may not be able to find enough supply points. Avoid the hottest hours and bring a tarp for shade. In Cinque Terre there are wooded sections that provide a moment of refreshment, but also many exposed parts where the sun beats down and is inclement, even on sunny spring or fall days.
THE BEACHES NEAR CINQUE TERRE, ENJOY A SWIM TOGETHER
Do we want to take a nice bath together with our dog?
Here are the possibilities in the Cinque Terre area. They are not many, but they are not nonexistent either.
The closest place to Cinque Terre to reach for a swim is Levanto, the town near Monterosso. Once we reach the sea we need to follow the signs for Bonassola, we will find a cool pedestrian tunnel and taking it we will pass several beaches. The beach located at the exit of the first tunnel allows dogs. Other beaches that are usable, but with reduced hours, are all the beaches on the Lericina coast, so Baia Blu, San Terenzo, Venere Azzurra and Fiascherino. Dogs are allowed from 20:30 to 05:30 in the morning. Even on the ferry boats dogs are allowed, always provided with a leash and muzzle.
AND WHAT ABOUT A NICE ACCOMMODATION FOR ME AND MY FURRY FRIEND?
In all Arbaspàa accommodations(about 40 between Manarola, Vernazza and Riomaggiore) dogs are allowed of course, you will only need to pay a small fee of 10€ for extra cleaning.
