Walk ancient paths and mule tracks across silent chestnut woods and medieval villages like ancient pilgrims walking to Rome.
We start at the beautiful Romanesque Church of Sorano, crucial landmark along the Via Francigena, hosting two original stele statues. We walk up to the historic centre of Filattiera, ancient fiefdom of the Malaspina family, featuring a restored private castle, the ancient St.James’ pilgrim hostel and the St. George’s Church. From here we walk along ancient mule tracks immersed in the woods as far as the fortified byzantine village of Filetto. Possibility to stop for a picnic lunch in the chestnut wood or at a local restaurant. Return by train at 13:33 from Villafranca-Bagnone or following trains. The train station is located 1 Km from Filetto where the tour ends.

Meeting: 9:30, at the Tourist Information Office in Filattiera.

Notes: during the summer months we suggest the alternative itinerary Molinello-Previdé-Groppodalosio-Casalina, 15 min drive from Pontremoli (courtesy transfer available).
*If travelling by train: train 9:27 am from La Spezia to Filattiera.
